This is part of THE VERONA CYCLE: a treatment of Shakespeare’s triptych of plays with locations in Verona: The Two Gentlemen of Verona, Romeo & Juliet, and The Taming of the Shrew, letting the plays resonate together and speak to each other, and to us, through time.

Characters cameo, scenes overlap, songs reprise and shift in something of a Shakespeare cinematic universe.
But for theatre.

Centered around imagery and themes of the binary spheres of the sun and the moon, the plays, like life, demand dimension, complexity, nuance, more of a mess, a third sphere. Perhaps that’s the earth - us:

No more be grieved at that which thou hast done

Clouds and eclipses stain the moon and sun

Even the moon and sun

This cycle speaks to the expectations, pleasures and dangers of growing up, generational consequences of betrayal, the miracle of love, and the labor of actual forgiveness. The plays themselves are part of that labor. They are a reminder of the mistakes of the past, and a reaffirmation of a collective commitment to strive to never make them again.
